Being part of #TEAMBASS has been a learning curve of note! The reason I chose to come to a medium-sized firm for my article journey is that I wanted to step out of articles as a CA(SA) that has touched on all aspects of the financials of a business, from taxes to drafting sets of financials – we really see the full picture here. Although I am only in the first year of my journey, I really feel like the trust that our firm places in all trainees to directly deal with leaders of business creates a learning environment conducive to creating well-rounded and confident future CAs(SA).

I knew from the moment I started the CA(SA) journey what type of firm and environment I would like to be in. The Bass ticked all of the boxes I had in mind and so much more. I have been exposed to various industries and tasks within my role, which has been invaluable to my growth. The support, training, knowledge and experience I have gained over the past few years is unmatched. Emphasis is not only placed on our technical skills, but also skills that make us a better person and young professional – our soft skills. The Bass is the place to be if your aim is to be a well-rounded professional!

As a potential employee, I knew stepping into a company with a strong corporate culture would make all the difference. It was important for me to be a part of a team with strong values, a collaborative nature and a culture that both fostered the growth of the individual and of the firm. I didn’t fully understand the importance of a company’s culture until I joined the firm. I realised it’s so much easier to deliver quality work if you enjoy where you work, the people you work with and if you work for a firm that plans its future with you in mind. Knowing that I could see myself thriving within the culture of the firm was the deciding factor.

Joining the Bass means that you will work with numbers, but not become just another number. The Bass offers a training environment where the necessary skills can be obtained to become a CA(SA) while also building relationships that will last a lifetime.

As a first year I can honestly say that I’ve been given the opportunity to grow not only career-wise but as an individual. I’ve already worked in various industries (manufacturing, education, and hospitality to name a few), and I meet and interact with the directors and key management of the client, this type of exposure so early in your career is rare but very possible here at MGI. I would choose MGI Bass Gordon every time – I’ve met colleagues who have become friends, and because of the open-door policy, I have direct access to the partners to discuss both work and personal life matters. The Bass is home away from home, and I wouldn’t want to deprive myself of a work family environment.

No day at work is the same, and you will never be bored. You are constantly learning and growing as a person and as a future CA(SA). Here, you won’t just learn how to audit, you’ll develop people skills, self-confidence, grit, and other qualities which will benefit you in the boardroom and beyond.
